Meet the Team

Dr. Wayne Hemphill founded Olathe Family Vision in 1989. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Eye Care Council and College of Optometrist in Vision Development. He is also a member of the Kansas Optometric Association, serving as President for 2016-17. He has lectured throughout the area on vision and learning as well as pediatric optometry.

Dr. Hemphill is active in his church and enjoys the outdoors, including golf and archery. He is married to Dr. Mary Hemphill and they have three grown children.

Dr. Gerard Lozada has both his Bachelor of Chemistry and Doctorate of Optometry degrees from the Universtiy of Houston. After graduating, Dr. Lozada worked in private practice with an eye surgeon, was a faculty member at the University of Houston College of Optometry, and has volunteered to provide pro bono eye care in Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, Texas, Missouri, and Kansas. Dr. Lozada is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Kansas Optometric Association and was in solo practice at Rosedale Vision Center before joining Windmill Eye Associates. In 2013, Dr. Lozada received the Distinguished Service Award for his work on the states Blue Ribbon Panel on Infant Mortality. In 2015, Dr. Lozada was appointed by the governer for a three-year term to the Kansas State Board of Examiners in Optometry.

Dr. Mary Pirotte Hemphill was raised in Wichita, and after attending the University of Kansas, she graduated from Southern California College of Optometry in 1988. After graduation, she then joined the staff as an optometrist at the Eye Center of Kansas City/Hunkler Eye Center, for approximately eight years, providing primary care, pre- and post-operative surgical care.

She is a member of the Kansas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Hemphill has been with Windmill Eye Associates since 1997, in addition to seeing patients at Olathe Family Vision West. She enjoys singing in her church choir, yoga, travel, and going to estate sales.
